NNWM/4: Long Live The King

This week flew by. Not surprising, considering I only worked three days. Our orders picked up a little today, so we were a bit busier.

I’m just excited that Tara will be back tomorrow! She’ll have been gone a full week by then – the longest we’ve been apart since she moved here in 2012. “Absence makes the heart grow fonder,” she told me before she left, but I was already pretty fond of her, sooo…

When we talked last night, I told her this is very reminiscent of what my life was like five years ago. Having the bed to myself, maintaining full control of the television remote, cooking whatever I want to eat…it brings back memories. But they aren’t really good ones. Freedom is nice, but loneliness? Not so much. At least I have a great job this time around, and NaNoWriMo has kept me busy. Audrey has made occasional appearances throughout the week, but between school, work, and hanging out with friends, I haven’t seen much of her, either. Let’s just say I will be very happy to have my wife back tomorrow. And I know she is pretty eager to come back home, too.

This evening I am listening to records and writing. A blogging friend from Maine surprised me by sending a jug of real Vermont maple syrup this week (thanks, Paula!), so I am going to make a maple-glazed salmon with a side of balsamic bacon Brussel’s sprouts. And to think that I hated them once.

So my novel-in-progress, Dream Sailors, revolves heavily around the King of Rock ‘n Roll, Elvis Presley. I’ve been a fan for 40-odd years, but only a casual one, so writing about him has required a bit of research. I came across a site that featured a photograph of what he’d look like today if he were still alive. It’s a bit jarring.

  1. OMG, I thought the same thing as Bijoux, I initially thought it was a picture of Johnny Cash, I kid you not.

Glad to hear Tara is back. I bet you both missed each other a lot. Don’t you just love when you see the person you love after being apart for some time? You get that wonderful gushy feeling of love in your heart!

Have a great rest of your weekend, buddy!
