NNWM/13: Killer Spaghetti Sauce

My parents emailed today from New Zealand. Or make that tomorrow, since they are 19 hours in the future. (I’ve been trying to figure out how to use this to my advantage, e.g., football scores, but I don’t think the International Date Line works that way). They wanted to let us know that they were okay. Umm…great! Glad to hear it. We’re okay, too.

A follow-up email shed a little more light on the one-sentence message we received earlier. Apparently there was some sort of earthquake in New Zealand? I hadn’t seen anything in the news about that, but Google (and CNN) confirm a couple of big earthquakes over in that part of the world. So I’m glad they’re okay!

It’s been a pretty low-key day. We lounged around the apartment all day, doing a whole lot of nothing. Watched the Broncos hang on for a victory over the Saints earlier. Tara made omelets for breakfast and Bloody Marys. We finally packed up all the Halloween decorations and returned the bins to the garage. I am making spaghetti for dinner; it’s a secret family recipe passed down from the old country. No, we are not Italian – I’m actually a weird mix of Hungarian/Polish/Slavak/Russian – but I do make a killer spaghetti sauce. Go figure.

It’s been a pretty great weekend. Usually these long weekends seem to fly by, but this one feels like it’s lasted a good, long time. I am oddly ready for work tomorrow.
